“Rival.” Jack’s first impression of Armando had been an impressive one – he had heard well of the legendary Butcher, and as a man who had both a deep wealth of contempt for pirates and a desire to see the Caribbean cleansed of them, Jack had initially seen Armando as a true champion toward that cause – and when he met him, that they were pitted against one another due to unfortunate circumstantial timing simply bred into Jack a hope that in outwitting the man, he would in turn create a rival – for all legendary men had one, after all.
