🤔 “What are you going to do when you finally have to confront all the horrors you’ve lived for what they are?” | Cutler to Theo

{ Truth Serum

“Whatever it takes to survive the ordeal, I should imagine.” The response is clipped, and more honest than he would have liked – though he rather doubted that the confrontation Cutler spoke of would arrive any time sooner than his own personal judgement day. Death was an inevitable fact of life, yes. Early death even more unquestionably true when one took into account Theodore’s living – and his way of life on top of that. The day would come when he would face that which lay in the shadows – but so long as he drew breath, Theodore saw no reason to linger in the dark when the light was ever so much warmer.

[ while harri is climbing vane, which one of your muses is the most likely to be successfully decked by a 5’3 idiot with absolutely no combat training whatsoever. this is an important hc question. ]

Successfully being the key word there, along with no combat training – we have the following options:

  • Elijah Grey. 5′0″ Captain who can be KO’d by a strong wind tbh. The trick is getting past his lieutenants.

  • Weatherby Swann. 6′0″ Cowardly peacock who couldn’t fight his way out of a sandcastle tbh. Greatest guardians are his son, James Norrington and his daughter, Elizabeth Swann, and they’re usually Off Adventuring so he a Good Bet.

  • Abigail Ashe. 5′2″ Author raised up in all the ways of How To Be A Lady. Just make sure you go after her in a verse without Joji in it.

  • Fitzwilliam Darcy. 6′2″ landowner who very much abhors fighting and is most assuredly pants at it. Always nervous.

  • Stephen Maturin. 6′2″ doctor and spy. Not recommended though, because while you could deck him, he would demand a duel afterward and – being the fucking crack shot he is – chances of survival are slim unless you are dastardly and flee the scene rather than accept the terms of gentlemanly behaviour.

  • Loki Friggajarsson. 6′2″ Frost Giant / convinced Asgardian Prince. He would consider it fucking hilarious whether he saw it coming or not. Good sport.

[ mcfreakin cRAWLS UP CHARLES’ SIDE, WHOLESALE CLAMBERS HIM LIKE A TREE, PLACES A DELICATE SMOOCH ON THE SIDE OF HIS HEAD, & A FLOWER IN HIS HAIR ]

A slight grunt is the only indication of exertion on Charles’ end as he is scrambled upon, though his arm does shift to form a supporting crook for the other to sit upon once they’d finished their arduous journey up his side. It was as much to support them as it was to make the sudden weight on his left a tad more manageable.

“You’re in an interesting mood,” He observed, not appearing too bothered by the sudden adornments he had acquired in the form of a human barnacle and the soft petals of a flower in his hair. “What’s the occasion then?”

This is just a quickie notation regarding Charles Vane and in particular, his relationship with Jack Rackham and Anne Bonny. While I have stamped a great deal of disclaimers on Vane in general it occurs to me now that folks are adopting his bookends that I should clarify myself a little.

I have Jack and Anne as NPC’s here because – I do have voices for them, just nothing strong enough for the limelight and close examination that characters who are officially crewed require. Due to how important they are to my interpretation of Vane, a lot of his headcanons involve them – some being centric on certain dynamics, others even including bits of dialogue or scenes unseen in the canon but true to my lad. Sometimes, if needed, they may cameo through a thread or plotting arrangement – thus, NPC status.

The thing I want to stress though, is I do not expect or require my ideas to be shared? If something I post does not suit your interpretation of Jack or Anne that is 100% okay. I will work with you merrily to build who my Charles Vane is with your version of either – what these headcanons do is shape who my Charles Vane is by default, while interaction with Rackhams / Bonnys shape who he is in other ways.

That said! If anything I write tickles your fancy you are welcome to reblog it / include it in your interpretation provided we are mutuals. I won’t be best pleased with nonmutuals doing this, but if I’m following you and we’re chatting it up consider this blanket permission to yoink as you need for those two u.u ❤

you know very well that i’m going to throw my own url down for the positivity meme right??

Listen I knew you would show up eventually so I was like ‘gotta think of something I have not said a bajillion times already, gotta be fresh’ and then I fuckin got distracted by the fact Jack Aubrey’s vest looks like naan bread so I mean, clearly this is going to be a Peak Time for a positivity slam.

We talked before about how we were like ships in the night, constantly passing one another by until the universe got fed the fuck up with us and just crashed us together so hard we were forced to dock in the same harbor for repairs and now here we are. Still living in the same safe harbor, sailing out but always sure about where we can anchor down, and sure there’s storms and there’s turbulence but we can weather it because we’re both stubborn af and about as willing to back down against a storm as James Norrington when one comes between him and his bae quarry. Let’s not drag Norrington too hard he does that well enough without our help bless his cheekies.

I got distracted again I had a point here that was like completely unrelated but then I got trapped in a metaphor.

OH.

Basically I just wanted to say like, we’ve come a long way from where we started but I wouldn’t change any of it and I am so happy to have you here in Canada and you’re stuck with us now. Family stamps all over your forehead there, pink tulip, you’re a gift and a treasure and we all love you ❤

My url maybe?

Honestly I am so glad I got over the nervousness about talking to you, because our chats are always super enlightening and help me to think more critically not just about my characters and their presentations, but also about myself. Your passion for taking an in depth look at a character through the aspect of psychological assessment of not only them, but their surrounding influences is inspiring and a genuine treat to observe and bounce off of, because not only do I end up learning a ton about Teague and those around him, I also learn a lot about various neurodivergent concepts that I have never really looked into or studied a great deal. I love learning and more often than not when we go off on thought trains it tends to be a phenomenally educational journey for me which I thoroughly enjoy.

I consider you to be the indisputable authority on Teague admittedly, and while I do have my own thoughts on the man I love being able to swing them by you and see what you think, because you always have so much insight ❤

I will also freely confess it’s a breath of fresh air to talk to someone who has some real experience with living life. Which is a saucy thing to say but with the tumblr culture of censorship and purity being so pervasive and alarming, meeting someone who has about as much time for that noise as I do is always a delight. It’s actually funny to think that we’ve spoken so much on so many subjects to the point I don’t doubt for a second you are friend-shaped, and yet we’ve actually never written together xD

Trust is a very important thing to Abigail – she is a woman who values honesty and ( all ironies aside ) was raised to uphold the truth first and foremost as the virtue most valiant among men. It is for this reason that her relationship to Charles Vane is so poignant – even if it is a rather subtle note in their brief time existing in one another’s spheres.

When Abigail was presented with a letter from Miranda Hamilton – a woman she remembered from her childhood – she had every reason to want to run toward that comfort and familiarity. Yet despite this, she hesitates and informs Eleanor that she has been promised a safe return home by Captain Vane – she trusts him despite everything she has been taught about pirates and every reason she has to be fearful of her position.

Even though she holds in her hand the promise of safety, she does not fall blindly to it and she displays a clear reluctance to leave – which is strange until one considers the fact that, when the fort was under attack and Abigail had no idea what was going on, Vane ordered his men to have her kept safe and unharmed. That no one was to touch her.

Considering her time with Low, Abigail knows one thing with alarming surety – that was not an order Captain Vane needed to deliver. Harm to her person – physical injuries of any sort – would not change her weight in gold for being returned alive. Yet he did give that order and – as we see from how remarkably undamaged she is in a physical sense in the wake of her ordeal – it is an order that was executed in full.

Abigail Ashe has no reason to doubt in Captain Vane because he has granted her none. He has been honest in his intentions from the start – to ransom her to her father – but he has done so in a way so remarkably different from Low that Abigail is not blind to what one may dare to consider an honorable trait in him. It is in fact because of Vane and his actions that Abigail was open to observing Flint and his crew critically, rather than hiding in fear throughout the duration of her journey. Abigail’s ability to trust in pirates, and believe them to be something more than monsters, started with her treatment as Captain Vane’s hostage.

I mention all of this partly due to various verses I have either present or in the works in which Abigail refuses to leave, or in some other way, finds herself in service to Vane by personal choice after the events of Charlestown – but mostly, because I was captivated by her resistance to leaving and needed to rewatch the entire arc to figure out where that resistance stemmed from.
