{ Tragic Honesty }

Talk about one of your worst memories involving someone you love. – Abigail from @harriedwritings

Despite herself, Abigail finds her mind drawing forth the echoes of conversations never meant for her ears – the terrible, deafening realization that her father had built his legacy on a foundation of deception and unimaginable cruelty toward those he had called his friends

The moment that the veil between monsters in pamphlets and the demons of the real world, forever imprinted on her mind with the echo of a gunshot and the vivid recollection of unseeing eyes as a dark pool formed a wicked halo around the face of a woman who had dared voice her righteous anger.

“When you form a world where heroes and monsters exist,” Her soft voice seemed tempered more than ever now, breathy with care over each affected syllable for no other reason than to ascertain she did not fall to pieces over her answer, “You create for yourself a pedestal. The day my father’s turned over, it was worse than rotten on the inside – it was coagulated with corpses and lies, and the true depths of him will haunt me so long as I live. All I can do, is hold on to the value of truth – a value instilled by him as surely as it was disregarded in his own dealings – and make of myself a better person than he ever was, for it.”

[ while harri is climbing vane, which one of your muses is the most likely to be successfully decked by a 5’3 idiot with absolutely no combat training whatsoever. this is an important hc question. ]

Successfully being the key word there, along with no combat training – we have the following options:

  • Elijah Grey. 5′0″ Captain who can be KO’d by a strong wind tbh. The trick is getting past his lieutenants.

  • Weatherby Swann. 6′0″ Cowardly peacock who couldn’t fight his way out of a sandcastle tbh. Greatest guardians are his son, James Norrington and his daughter, Elizabeth Swann, and they’re usually Off Adventuring so he a Good Bet.

  • Abigail Ashe. 5′2″ Author raised up in all the ways of How To Be A Lady. Just make sure you go after her in a verse without Joji in it.

  • Fitzwilliam Darcy. 6′2″ landowner who very much abhors fighting and is most assuredly pants at it. Always nervous.

  • Stephen Maturin. 6′2″ doctor and spy. Not recommended though, because while you could deck him, he would demand a duel afterward and – being the fucking crack shot he is – chances of survival are slim unless you are dastardly and flee the scene rather than accept the terms of gentlemanly behaviour.

  • Loki Friggajarsson. 6′2″ Frost Giant / convinced Asgardian Prince. He would consider it fucking hilarious whether he saw it coming or not. Good sport.

Snakes: Would your muse ever keep an unusual/exotic pet? [ for Abigail! ]

{ Fear Themed Headcanons }

“That depends,” Her tone is soft as ever, though there is a slight lilt within that indicates laughter may well be bubbling within her, “Do pirates count?” Certainly, the friends she kept now would be seen as exotic or at the very least unusual to the more daring in her past – but to most, they would be terrifying and strange, much like she imagined a wild animal upon whom someone set a collar would be. “If they do then I suppose the answer is yes – though I no more keep them than they do me. As for animals – well, I’d really rather not. They belong in their homes, not mine.”

{ Sunday Kinkuisition }

  • Body worship. Though she wouldn’t register it as such, Abigail is an exceptionally attentive partner and has a habit of committing every touch to memory. She has an inquisitive mind, and exploring her partner’s form is something that comes naturally to her as loving them does – to know the ways to best bring them pleasure is of course an objective somewhere in her mind, but at the core of it all the anchoring sensation of touch is what she craves the most, and for that reason she will spend hours simply mapping her lover with her hands and lips if they will indulge her.
  • Dominance/Submission – though she doesn’t know it at this juncture, there is something empowering about having a certain measure of control in the bedroom – admittedly from either partner, be it her own command or the direction of her lover. Abigail finds there is as much strength in submission as there is in control, which makes her quite versatile when it comes to such elements.

  • Emotional Acceptance. Abigail is motivated first and foremost by her heart – to be able to laugh or cry and know that either action is a safe one – that there is love enough in the room to overcome an awkward or silly moment, to clasp on to when the storms inside cloud over the pleasure for a time – is probably one of the most important things in the world for Abigail.

Mirrors: What is your muse’s least favorite thing about their appearance?

Her scars from her time with Ned Low. The ones on her ankles and wrists from bondage she can bear – it is the smaller, more private scars on her stomach and thighs no father would think to look for that occasionally cause her great distress.

The marks were instilled on her to lower her sense of value in herself, to cause pain and fear – the violence of them was relatively minor, but the permanence of them would ensure she could never forget her time as a hostage, could never erase her history in a pirate camp. And though she was never once violated by the crew, those marks would ensure that any man would question that truth – a devastating blow for a girl whose sole role in life was to marry rich and well for her father’s benefit.

As a surgeon, she makes the decision to ink the lines and turn them into artwork, reclaiming her power over what her body looks like. As an author, she eventually overcomes it with the knowledge nobody will see them but herself. ( And in the version where she has Joji as a companion, she meditates when troubled and eventually concludes that they are marks of survival she has no reason to be ashamed of )

Number 13: Does your muse believe any superstitions?

Abigail believes in a few small things – such as the spilling of salt being bad luck lest more be thrown over the left shoulder, broken mirrors meaning bad luck, the terrible nature of sneezing, that it is good luck for a bride to wear something borrowed, and that the first newlywed to sleep the night of the wedding would be the first to take the long sleep in the end ( thus her quiet vow not to sleep at all on her wedding night, prior to realizing her freedom from societal bonds and wondering whether or not marriage even existed in her future! )

She believes in the evil eye, in demons and angels, in bad spirits and good. She believes there is more to the world than many see, though she has no means of proving it nor any wish to try. Only that – were she to encounter something wholly strange – she would not be too terribly surprised. These facts all stand true for Abigail regardless of verse.

Ghosts: Has your muse ever seen something they couldn’t explain?

Mr. Flint’s inexplicable wardrobe change prior to his hanging.

In truth there is so much that Abigail has encountered since ( and admittedly prior to! ) the Charlestown affair that feels utterly beyond explanation she has turned frequently to her writings by way of solace.

On a more supernatural level however, she has had no experiences herself beyond the stories brought to her by sailors that ultimately framed

Shadows Of The Past.

🍴🍴 Abigail

{ Food Headcanons }

  • Abigail is quite fond of shellfish, lobster in particular. Perhaps because it was the one thing that could never be eaten with a true elegance, and forced even the most noble to humanize themselves a little in order to best enjoy it.

    By contrast, she abhors veal and lamb, considering it absolutely dreadful by sheer principle of the inhumanity necessary to slaughter an animal in infancy.

    By extension, Abigail cannot bring herself to enjoy meat that comes from most land animals, with singular exception to pigs and boars, which she feels are quite dangerous and violent – which means if one does manage to secure such a beast, the least that it can do is serve as sustenance for all the trouble it caused in life.

  • Abigail adores trying food from other places. She is fond of lemon, and has come to learn that she deeply enjoys cajun food ( though of course it was unheard of at home, after Charlestown she eventually saw no reason to avoid the indulgence!

    To those with the patience to show her, she is even more grateful, as she loves to be self sustaining just as much as she enjoys learning new things.

🤐Would they ever confess their feelings first?

Our dear author is deeply dedicated to truthfulness and honesty. While she may not confess herself right away ( generally attempting to come to terms with what she is feeling, as often times she doesn’t at all understand what is going on until someone makes exactly the right remark for her to realize it has a name and it is indeed as she suspects ) it does not sit well with her to withhold information.

Abigail is as opposed to lies of omission as she is to blatant falsehoods, so if she is certain or if she feels she should say something, she will prove herself to be shockingly bold. This however, is generally due to the fact that by the time she is ready to say how she feels, she trusts that the response will be kind.

Not accepting, but kind – she does not expect to be desirable in such fashions, so much as she does to be treated with respect and kept on as a friend despite her one-sided emotions which are sure to fade in time.

💋Are they more sensual or sexual?

Abigail is a sensual creature – even once she is woken to sexual acts, it is softer things that make her heart race. She predicted a loveless marriage in her future, one without desire but with frequent consumption for the need of heirs. She was prepared for sex in her life, for the monotony of missionary arrangements – but not for passion

At no point in her life was she prepared to be desired in a way that might prompt long periods of kissing and touching, for the overwhelming sensation of being treated like something precious and adored. For Abigail, the foreplay is everything, and is not necessarily a lead into sex so much as a display of love that exceeds words and passes into physical manifestations.

📖What is their favorite outside of the bedroom activity to do with their partner?

Reading, or going for long walks. She loves quiet time with the person she is closest to, and the sensation of knowing how the world can be so big and yet, when they are together, it feels so comfortably close.

Being physical with Abigail under certain circumstances can result in her becoming rather shy. She’s not used to tactile comforts, though the longer she is alone the more she realizes that she craves them. She can count on her hands the amount of times she was hugged that weren’t due to it being an occasion ( she would get a hug from her father every year on his birthday, a kiss on the cheek from her mother when it was Abigail’s own birthday, and an embrace from her parents every Christmas. ) and still have several fingers left over. And on only one of those occasions was the person she embraced not a parent – and that, of course, would be Miranda Hamilton. ( Two actually, if we include Joji in their storyline! But from an unconnected standpoint, that’s the facts for her sadly enough. )

Aside from her dancing and deportment lessons, Abigail was simply not touched. And in a life where she now has to dodge the grabby hands of sailors as a waitress, this is somewhat detrimental as she can be overwhelmed quickly in manners that grant the wrong impression. Speechlessness, flushed features and a refusal to meet gazes can unfortunately attract unwanted attentions, so it is lucky for Abigail that she works at an inn that prides itself in looking out for its waitresses.

In these instances though, she is uncomfortable and often times scared rather than she is fluttery. It is when people she knows and trusts become physical with her that she can start to get a little twitterpated. She doesn’t mean to more often than not, but due to her intense loneliness and her isolated upbringing, kind and gentle touches can lead to her falling in love rather easily, and not at all knowing what to do about it.

While she may confront her own jitters and may even bluntly admit to her sense of being overwhelmed from a tactile standpoint, the breathlessness from other causes she will have a much harder time owning up to.

{ Learn To Make A Heart Flutter }

Abigail is not used to flirtations and generally considers passes at her to be distinctly uncomfortable. She spent the whole of her life expecting to be arranged into a marriage with an older gentleman to further her father’s ambitions – she was not upset by this fate, because she had never considered romance to be particularly interesting. It simply wasn’t something that was in her sphere of understanding.

Indeed, when it comes to maneuvering men, Abigail is unintentionally adept. Her mother taught her many methods to placate tempers and redirect frustrations, that she employs rather frequently regardless of verse. In her surgeon storyline, Abigail is far more aware of these manipulations and utilizes them with the same precision as she does a scalpel. In her author storyline, she utilizes them out of habit and a need to escape the situation as easily as possible.

To make surgeon Abigail flutter, it takes honesty. Being honest with her and yourself and the world around you – the more true a person is to themselves, the more likely she is to like them. Their truth doesn’t have to be a good kind, either – for example, surgeon!Abigail would adore John Silver because he is always bluntly in it for himself and never denies it. He’s selfish, self serving, and an outright snake – but he does it in a way that is queerly truthful and so, she would be liable to respect him a great deal more than she would Flint, who lies to the world about his motives, even if his intentions are a great deal purer than that of Silver.

Author Abigail is not so stringent or angry – she responds well to honesty, but she accepts a world that is more grey than her angel of mercy counterpart. She reacts to close proximity – the longer she is near to someone, the more likely she is to find herself leaning on them. The more time spent leaning on them, the more time spent examining them – until eventually, it may dawn on her that they are attractive – at which point, she may have more trouble than usual with speaking, because Abigail has a hard time talking to people she thinks are handsome.

{ Headcanon Requests }

Following the events of Charlestown, Abigail responds to matters around herself very differently. Prior to being kidnapped by Lowe, held in a dungeon by Vane, sailing with Flint and his crew, she was positively petrified of pirates and anyone who looked like they could be a pirate.

Her father made them all out to be terrible, evil men who would burn, rape, and pillage anywhere they went – and that nobody was ever safe from their monstrous ways. That nobody could be, until all pirates were eradicated from the seas.

Back then, all it took was being impoverished to unnerve Abigail, who in her sheltered life had little means or reason to recognize the differences between poor and dangerous when both were described in the same ugly terms and descriptions.

Following her ordeal however, she began to look at her world more critically as much out of her newfound disillusionment as out of a need to survive. Depending on the course she chooses ( be it surgeon or author ) the things that unnerve her vastly differ.

To the surgeon, blood and gore hold little sway over her, and men she recognizes as violent and controlling toward women are met with a wary eye and a waiting blade. What concerns the surgeon is being found out in her own acts of silent, brutal murder. Her brand of justice requires an answer sooner rather than later, and being confronted with suspicions about her work and method is far more likely to make her nervous than unwanted advances.

Conversely, the author never obtained that same level of anger and hardness. She exorcises her demons every single day, and works hard to hold together the fabric of a world now torn, by weaving her narrative and hoping to find some semblance of peace. She does not fear death or pain – there is a horrible numbness within her that makes her face the threat of either with a cool, almost dissociative logic.

She feels like a ghost in her own skin and is convinced any physical suffering she faces now is meaningless in the grand scheme of her story. She is too lost and depressed to care – that is not to say she seeks out pain, or that she wishes for death. It is simply that the threat of these things do not move her, and her utterly emotionless response to them tends to be eerie enough to protect her, in the end.

She fears confrontations with her characters – is made most uneasy by the thought of discussing her inspirations with the men who inspired her in the first place. She is set on edge when asked about her thoughts and ambitions with her writing – in truth, talking about her works in general tends to bother her. She is losing her grip on the will and ability to converse with other people, losing herself to the world she is creating to supplant the one that she lives in, and the idea that she may be forced to face the reality of the men she has created is somewhat petrifying.
