Trying to sleep anyway, because he knows he needs it and he knows he needs to be functional and on his game at all times. If all efforts fail, if every method he knows of to encourage sleep does not succeed, he stays in bed and simply keeps his eyes closed.

He dismisses thoughts and – I would like to say he meditates naturally, honestly, because there is no other term for what he does. It’s breathing exercises and mind clearing efforts – whether he sleeps or not by the end of it, his body rests, and that can often be enough to last him on the most sleepless of periods.

Frog for Silver, Tom Pullings, Daniel, Charles, and Muharrem

{ Detailed Headcanons }

Frog: Does your muse make any strange noises? Or do they do anything relatively strange with their mouth unknowingly?

Silver mm’s on occasion as a means of indicating disapproval, though he has for the most part come to utilize this rarely since learning the power of a look. He has learned that thinning his lips and tilting his head just right – with the slightest flinch of his nose, as if in silent snarl is perhaps the most effective tool in his arsenal for controlling the men without so much as a fucking word.

Thomas licks his lips when he wishes to draw attention to them – it is only semi-conscious, and may in fact not be so overt. He is also known to simply suck his bottom lip between his teeth for the same effect, or to draw them down in a notable pout. His lips are very expressive and a good means of determining his mood – provided of course, he is not distracted by his libido at the time.

An imperious air has been part of Gillette’s upbringing from day one. He has mastered a non-expression that he typically sticks to more often than not, but particularly when listening to reports or attending to business. In these times, his chin may jut out slightly in an unspoken and commanding manner whilst his lips thin in what appears to be displeasure – this, in truth, enables him to keep from smiling when men falter over themselves in the face of such stern countenance.

Charles’ voice is in and of itself a strange thing. Many often believe his growly tones are affected for the sake of intimidation – however, after prolonged exposure one will come to realize that this is the effect of violence done unto him that has permanently affected his vocal chords.

This, as a result, can add to interesting effects based on what he is trying to convey – his laughter has been known to rasp into soundlessness, for example, and his shouts have been known to crack on occasion as well.

This latter one is rare, but has happened enough that he has learned to master a loud bark that pushes his throat to the limit of its capacity without reaching that point, as opposed to the type of roaring bellow one might expect from such a lionesque man.

While a generally affable man, Muharrem is known to flash his teeth in a predatory fashion once incensed – forming his words in an aggressive manner that bares them frequently, as if at any moment he may well fly for the vulnerable flesh of his opponent’s throat.

Interestingly, after this event he may be noted to smile more frequently at the individual who angered him – which to many may appear to be a sign that peace has been achieved. His smile baring teeth is not a friendly gesture – this, too, is a sign of continued aggression. It is only when Muharrem smiles without a hint of teeth that he is showing true softness, and pleasure in your company.

{ Food Headcanons }

Daniel cannot drink coffee – it gives him the jitters, and by the time he can sleep again after partaking he finds himself prone to the most obnoxious nightmares that he truly cannot fathom why anyone would enjoy it. That said, on the flip side, he is an Absolute Tank when it comes to booze.
Chamomile tea puts him in an easy mood and is often his method of encouraging sleep more often than not. He enjoys a stout pekoe in the mornings and afternoons, leaving chamomile to before bed in lieu of a nightcap.
Daniel likes apples well enough, though his favoritism for them was most founded when he discovered how wonderfully they could be utilized in the training of horses, swiftly elevating the fruit to his most preferred.

{ Learn To Make A Heart Flutter }

Have a heart of gold. Full disclosure, in all the time I have written Gillette, he has only shipped five times – and of those times only once has it been spur of the moment – and that was with @seafaired‘s Archie Kennedy. His others have been Theodore Groves ( as I write him, they have on occasion come as a unit in poly pairings ) a pre-DMC James Norrington who broke it off with him for puritan reasons, a pre-DMC Will Turner who ultimately swung back for Elizabeth, and the original incarnation of Howard Wilson who was an OC on the forum I was on at the time and we see how that fucking went.
Needless to say he is probably my most circumspect and closed off muse in regard to shipping because it has never gone well for him – and unlike Theodore who bounces back from that shit like it is water off a duck’s back, Gillette never forgets and holds on to his hurts. It takes me trusting the mun a great deal to convince him to trust one of their characters, honestly.

Generally speaking the safest approach is if he is with Theodore – like the other side of a coin, Theodore keeps Gillette balanced and helps him brave things better just as Gillette will root Theodore back into reality when it is needed. Which of course leads to –
Be open to polyamory. Gillette as Theodore’s lover is generally protective – he’s a secretive man by nature, and he won’t stand for Theodore’s abundance of good nature and forgiveness to be abused. If he sees that you’re good to Theodore and that Theodore is interested, it is generally Gillette who will initiate the invitation, as he does enjoy giving Theodore that which pleases him. He is rarely interested on his own, but as Archie has proven, being a veritable ball of fucking sunshine is a big attraction for this melancholic puppy.
Show passion. Gillette is attracted to passionate people. Theodore lives for the moment, Archie is poetic and theatrical – James was ambitious, William was a spitfire, Howard was intellectually engaging – being someone who stimulates Gillette is one of the fastest and surest ways to catch his attention and capture his heart.

Hug

Friendly reminder that Daniel Gillette is six foot one and built like a brick shithouse. Chances are your character is smaller than him in one way or another – and when he hugs, Daniel involves his whole self in the endeavour. It’s like getting wrapped up by a bear, only less fuzzy and potentially deadly.

Daniel’s hugs are all encompassing affairs. They are warm and firm, and sometimes when he gives an extra squish they can be a little too tight. This latter tends to only happen when he really, really missed someone though, so it’s usually not too terrible.

This is a permanent starter call for Daniel Gillette, of Pirates of the Caribbean explicitly.

Happiness

Daniel finds happiness in work and in the puzzles and games he plays with his mother, strategic training exercises that serve a far greater purpose than he in fact realizes. He enjoys working hard and passing out after pushing himself to the limit, just as much as he enjoys an average day in which his body acts on autopilot.

However, the greatest source of joy to him outside of his work and perhaps a few friends, is the tending of his horses. Daniel adores them as one might adore their own child, and often visits them before he even checks in on his parents once he returns to shore. For all his dedicated service, Daniel remains at his core a man of the land – and perhaps, in some ways, a man of the army.

Heart

Daniel is a steady man – he works hard to maintain his health both physically and psychologically, as he knows well the damage that can befall those who do not keep their humors balanced.

Despite the devastation that ruined his career in the army and shattered his willingness to trust in romance easily, his dedication to moving forward allowed him to go above and beyond expectation. He went from one promising, decorated career to carving another from below the bottom, beneath the slew of rumor and wondering, and he did it all without turning bitter to those around him.

There is a thread of instability within him however, that stems from that same devastation. He sees Lord Wilson as his greatest and most dangerous foe, and if there is any man whom he may murder in cold blood – it is doubtless the one who once held his heart.

What does Gillette smell like? ( Can’t do mom and then ignore dad, can we? )

Unlike his senior officer and good friend Theodore Groves, Gillette does not spare expense when it comes to his toilet. Even his wigs are set with the finest quality of scented powders, his clothes carefully perfumed to mask the detritus and the grime one encounters both at sea and upon the streets.

Lady Sarah instilled upon her son the exceptional importance of a recognizable scent – as well as the associated dangers of being toorecognizable. He makes use of common bases – amber and the spirit of musk, which blends to his own scent and keeps all other scents grounded to him at the heart. For head he works with sandalwood and pine scents (occasionally marjoram ) and it could easily be stated that overall, he smells like warm autumn.

The amber and sandalwood cross, however, is something of his signature, as it lays upon his handkerchiefs and gloves as a means of masking unpleasant smells when he is landed and going through lower areas. These articles, when borrowed to others, are almost effeminate for this process and are again, the result of his mother’s teachings.
