šŸ“šŸ“šŸ“ Silver

{ Food Headcanons }

  • THIS BOY SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED ANYWHERE NEAR A KITCHEN. EVER AND UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. He has spent his entire life in the lap of luxury, he has never wanted for anything – at least not where basic needs are concerned.

    His formative years had him raised well aware of the social differences between himself and those who worked in the kitchen – and later, his time as Christopher Hope was spent fairly isolated and turbulent, but by no means was he ever left to go hungry. His survival was more important than that at the time. Never once has he set foot in a kitchen and by god does it show.Ā

  • Silver learned to prepare food from Randall – literally from watching him and talking to him, following points and looks and getting slapped upside the head countless times. On more than one occasion Randall swung a paring knife at him, and twice he was beaten with a fish and hustled out of the cooking area by a very exasperated cook.Ā

  • Everything Silver learned from Randall and Flint about how to prepare food was memorized to the point that, by the time Treasure Island rolls about, he is fashioned by the nickname Barbecue among his new crew and known to be an absolutely phenomenal cook.

    He is nothing, if not a fast and adaptable learner.

šŸŽ¶Do they have a type?Ā

Jandro: A pretty smile, a joyous laugh, or even justĀ ā€˜hi’ was generally enough for him to fall madly in love. In his defense, he was a very passionate little boy who had very little reason not to love people.

Christopher: Whomever he was expected to show his affections to. He was no more than a clockwork doll in the Hope household and he knew it. He did not dare cast his eyes in any direction but the ones decided for him.

John: Survivors who have been through hell and still retained a true core of integrity attract him more than anything else, in truth because he hopes to learn from them how to reconcile what he has become amid the wreckage of all he used to be.

šŸ‘«Do they display affection in public? What about in private?Ā

As you will soon learn, as a young lad in Spain he was a very open young person who would make grand gestures and had little issues with public affections. As a forced Englishman, he was circumspect and suspicious enough not to dare. As John Silver, he has none whom he would offer such affections to and even if he did, he would not dare to risk revealing a potential vulnerability.Ā

In private – again, Jandro was open, Christopher would not dare do anything outside the lines of propriety he had been so forcefully educated in, and Silver doesn’t trust enough to show vulnerability to anyone. ( Exception later to Madi, who proves it is possible to earn back the openness and adoration Jandro is truly capable of – but seeing as she is a singularly exceptional woman, it is doubtful anyone else will succeed in earning the same favor without considerable alterations to the canon in play. Such as literally anything where seasons 3-4 are nixed, lmao.Ā )

šŸ“ŗ Do they share information about their relationships freely with friends and family?Ā

Back before John Silver existed – before his father came and fashioned out of a Spanish child an English heir – Jandro was easily one of the most romantic idiots in his entire county area. When he was seven, he was positively besotted with a young lass of eight, and was absolutely convinced he would marry her.Ā

He told his mother and his grandmother all about it, and even learned from his grandmother to make a flower crown so that he could bring his little beloved gifts that were thoughtful and appropriate for their age.Ā

He was, therefore, absolutely devastated when she broke off with him because she found aĀ ā€˜better boyfriend’ and spent the better part of two weeks with his grandmother lamenting the cruelties of women.Ā

He bounced back quickly enough when another young lady set her sights on him, and so it went in merry and foolish fashion until his mother reigned him in and demanded he begin to comport himself appropriately. He had his longest relationship at the age of ten and it was mostly due to adult interferences with the intent of an arrangement.Ā

Perhaps unfortunately, Jandro’s habit of sharing everything with his grandmother lead her to realize the young girl in question was part of a disreputable family, thus resulting in the two being separated – it is quite likely that had he kept his time with the young lady to himself, he would have been at her summer house with his grandmother when the attack came, and thus spared witness to such carnage and perhaps afforded the survival of a dear family member.Ā

As Christopher Hope, he did not entertain any courtships until he was in his early twenties, both of which were designed to test him and his dedication and loyalty. He learned from the first not to trust even the one person he did in Hope house after that – and from the second, that any word is a weapon if utilized with the correct intentions. He reported in mechanically, but there was no interest and certainly, nothing worth listening to.Ā

As John Silver, he has nobody whom he might share such things with, save whomever happens to be his partner. So ultimately, we can conclude that life turned him from someone who celebrated love in all its forms and shared it with those he adored because it made sense his happiness would bring them happiness, to a man who holds no faith that happiness can be real and has nobody to share it with even if it might be.Ā

{ Learn To Make A Heart Flutter }

Silver guards his heart jealously, obscuring it as surely as he obscures everything about his past. It takes about two years before he fully starts thinking of himself as Silver, so letting someone close before he’s fully established who he wants to be – who he needs to become – is incredibly difficult to manage.Ā

It would be a lie to claim he does not have a weakness for Spanish songs, and for the sound of his mother tongue in prose and prayer. He pretends not to notice it, or to be moved – but in those rare times when he hears native speakers he feels more whole and at ease in existence than he does at any other point.Ā

Those who have learned the language, but have no mastery of the accent, make him uneasy and even angry, to the point he revealed his own fluency aboard the Walrus simply to avoid hearing his language be chopped and butchered so bitterly.Ā

Ūž: Are there any inner demons they can never seem to get rid of? What are they? – for silver!

{ Headcanon Requests }

Silver’s greatest fear throughout his time alongside Flint was that one day, the man would learn the truth of him – and all would be lost. Knowing himself as he did, Silver knew it would be more profitable for Flint to dispose of him than it would ever be to keeping him around – especially after he learned the truth of the man’s past.Ā Although he weaponized that truth immediately, there was a small part of him that did so knowing full well that were their situations reversed, Flint would do the exact same.Ā

Silver never once deluded himself into thinking he had value to Flint in any capacities outside of that of tool. Once he as a tool ceased to be of any use to Flint, he would be discarded as Gates was. Considering the origins of their relationship, the idea of trusting Flint not to turn on him in the end was as mad to Silver as the fact Flint seemed to willfully allow himself to be lead by the nose at times.Ā

In truth, Silver believed that part of why he got away with the things he did was because Flint considered him valuable enough at the time to excuse it. So long as he maintained usefulness, he was untouchable – there was just no telling when that usefulness might slip, and for that reason, Silver never once allowed himself to offer Flint so much as a single hint to who he had been prior to becoming John Silver in the first place.Ā

Because even when he held Flint’s secrets in one hand, he knew those secrets would not destroy Flint the way his own secrets could be his complete undoing. Even once he knew Thomas Hamilton was alive, he had no guarantee he would be able to fully eradicate the threat Flint posed overall – because for as close as he got to Flint, as much as he hated to admit it, Flint in turn got close to him.Ā

In short, Silver’s greatest demon throughout the entire story was both himself and Flint, and when the tale reaches its conclusion, there is a possibility that both demons could be faced – but it is, in all honesty, incredibly unlikely either man would allow for it.Ā
