atoll: if your muse could go anywhere, without any restrictions whatsoever, where would they go? why would they go there?

Even though it has been sixteen years since he has seen her shores – and the last time he was there, all that which he knew and valued had been destroyed – Silver still considers Spain to be his home. If he thought he could return there without being held accountable for his father’s crimes against the aristocracy, he would not hesitate to return to the place where he was born and raised.

black: does your muse have a ‘bucket list?’ list some things your muse wants to accomplish before they die.

All of the goals Silver had in his past were designed and chosen for him. His mother had intentions for him – and his father broke him down and molded him into the precursor of what would one day be Silver. When it comes to being on his own, Silver took a great deal of time coming into his own – but ultimately, what he wants most in life is to regain what he lost.

He understands that his mother and grandmother will never stand at his side again, that his friends no longer know his face if they even survived the assault, and that even the servants who helped raise him are gone forever. What he longs for is a sense of security, a community that he can truly trust where he can be himself – and learn who he is without manipulations and masks to survive behind. A place where he matters, and where those around him mean the world.

In essence, he wants to find a home again, one that has a foundation of trust and care rather than deceit and self interests. He just isn’t certain that it is possible – and in the end, settles for what he considers to be the nearest thing. The crew of the Walrus care about him, even if there is no real trust to be found and everything is about a careful balance of charisma and control. It’s not a family, and it’s not a home – but it is security as long as it is maintained and it is something he can call his own – so it is good enough.

new leaf: what message would your muse send to their past self, if any?

Run.

The moment where Silver feels his life truly altered was when he saw the flames of his former home and raced his horse toward them. He had been out for training when the attack came, as the report from his father’s spy had maintained – he was never meant to see what had been done. He was meant to be deceived, convinced his mother wanted this new life for him, and manipulated through letters from a dead woman into behaving the way the Hope family desired.

Instead, he raced into the midst of the carnage, managed to bypass lingering soldiers who were ensuring that their victims were indeed dead and neither stunned nor faking, and find what remained of his mother and grandmother amid their escape party. He was too ravaged by the sight to think of doing anything but holding his mother and begging her to be alright, promising her he’d get help, to think of running. He was dragged from her side and when his screaming became vexing enough, he was knocked out.

If he were to give any advice to his past self, it would be to turn his horse and flee for the nearby city, to run as fast as he could for soldiers and men who could have, would have – stood between himself and the English that day. Had he run, had he been able to find a way to fight – he would still be among his people, he would be with an uncle or even an aunt, and he would never have seen English shores. Nor, would he have ever seen what truly happened that day, and spend the remainder of his life haunted by women in stained dresses.

peacock blue: is your muse honest? what sorts of lies do they tell, if not?

Gates is a painfully honest man, which stands out rather notably when he is contrasted by someone as dishonest as Flint is capable of being. It is due to the depths of his integrity that the men trust him so much – and unfortunately more often than not, the lies he tells tend to be spoken in an effort to protect Flint or ( more frequently still ) Flint’s interests.

reddish brass: how likely is your muse to step up and take the role of a leader? are they willing to take the challenge, or are they more apt to being a follower?

Gates is a natural leader who is completely content to not be doing that – when he notices a gap in control he fills it because efficiency is how he operates and he doesn’t have a lot of patience for lackadaisical efforts. He has no issue taking the reigns and pulling things under control – not to mention when it comes to delegation he could straight up be in parliament he is so good at it – but ultimately he just prefers not to – so while yes he will when needs must, more often than not he prefers to follow.

tea orange: what is something that your muse is fascinated with?

Flint, honestly – if the man were not so capable of amusing and yes, fascinating Gates he would never have reached a point where Gates stood as his confidant. They wouldn’t be captain and quartermaster – Gates would never have backed him, and he would have left the ship with the old captain if Flint managed the votes anyway. Without the core fact that Flint intrigues and impresses Gates in turns, there would be no foundation for their friendship to form, let alone maintain itself.

Fire: What is your muse’s temper like? [ for Julia! ]

{ Detailed Headcanons }

As sharp and steady as her blade, Julia Ward is not a woman who is quick to anger – but when it does rise to the occasion it is utilized as a weapon first and explored as an emotion after the fact.

Longevity and impatience are not a well made match. Even in her youth Julia preferred to approach matters from a logical perspective – often finding that the heat of anger was a comfortable reminder that there was more to her than met the eye, but that did not necessarily mean she had to reveal such a truth to anyone around her.

Learning to harness her anger into a honed tool at her disposal as opposed to something under which her wit and skills succumbed did not come easily – and prices steep with blood have been paid for the lessons. Arrogance, hubris and indignation have all driven her into terrible decisions in the past, and those tales have in turn inspired within her a unique stance on the expression of emotion.

In the heat of it, she makes herself breathe and let the spiking drive of the sensation fade from her blood. The situation at hand is then managed with cool and calculative persuasions – be they verbal or violent. Afterward, when the smoke clears, she may allow herself to rage – to seethe and speak bitterly of what transpired, but also to expend her energy in frustration so that she may better focus on whether or not her chosen actions were justifiable.

It has taken her decades to reach the point she is at now, but Julia is aware that her nigh impenetrable calm is her greatest asset now, where her rage was once such a horrible detriment. For now, even that wrath is under her command when it should be at the most tempestuous which, by her estimation, is virtue enough.

Mirrors: What is your muse’s least favorite thing about their appearance?

Her scars from her time with Ned Low. The ones on her ankles and wrists from bondage she can bear – it is the smaller, more private scars on her stomach and thighs no father would think to look for that occasionally cause her great distress.

The marks were instilled on her to lower her sense of value in herself, to cause pain and fear – the violence of them was relatively minor, but the permanence of them would ensure she could never forget her time as a hostage, could never erase her history in a pirate camp. And though she was never once violated by the crew, those marks would ensure that any man would question that truth – a devastating blow for a girl whose sole role in life was to marry rich and well for her father’s benefit.

As a surgeon, she makes the decision to ink the lines and turn them into artwork, reclaiming her power over what her body looks like. As an author, she eventually overcomes it with the knowledge nobody will see them but herself. ( And in the version where she has Joji as a companion, she meditates when troubled and eventually concludes that they are marks of survival she has no reason to be ashamed of )

Number 13: Does your muse believe any superstitions?

Abigail believes in a few small things – such as the spilling of salt being bad luck lest more be thrown over the left shoulder, broken mirrors meaning bad luck, the terrible nature of sneezing, that it is good luck for a bride to wear something borrowed, and that the first newlywed to sleep the night of the wedding would be the first to take the long sleep in the end ( thus her quiet vow not to sleep at all on her wedding night, prior to realizing her freedom from societal bonds and wondering whether or not marriage even existed in her future! )

She believes in the evil eye, in demons and angels, in bad spirits and good. She believes there is more to the world than many see, though she has no means of proving it nor any wish to try. Only that – were she to encounter something wholly strange – she would not be too terribly surprised. These facts all stand true for Abigail regardless of verse.

Ghosts: Has your muse ever seen something they couldn’t explain?

Mr. Flint’s inexplicable wardrobe change prior to his hanging.

In truth there is so much that Abigail has encountered since ( and admittedly prior to! ) the Charlestown affair that feels utterly beyond explanation she has turned frequently to her writings by way of solace.

On a more supernatural level however, she has had no experiences herself beyond the stories brought to her by sailors that ultimately framed

Shadows Of The Past.

⚔ – DUEL – a meeting or relationship that was important to them [ for vane! ]

{ Monstrous Headcanons }

We’ve already discussed how he met his lieutenants / platonic life mates Jack and Anne – and there’s been some discussion on Blackbeard and Guthrie. The meeting I haven’t dug into is his first ( and I do believe only on screen ) interaction with Madi’s mother.

First of all, this woman is a made queen – her air commands respect but not because she was born into her power but because she has earned it and maintained it. Hers is a dignity that has been fought and bled for – something that has instilled in her a will to survive and above all to protect those who maintain the same values as herself toward freedom and security for her people. In her Charles sees someone recognizable – a kindred spirit, in fact – who will not yield herself to just anyone without proper cause to consider them worthy of it.

This is not a woman Charles resents – in every way she is someone he respects immediately. His arms are crossed over himself – an imposing stance but also, a defensive one. His arrival here is unwelcome and indicative of failure on Flint’s part – thus equating him to failure. Yet his eyes are blown wide – something he only does when conveying earnest emotion of the deepest sort – and when Flint is challenged he speaks up.

Not just for Flint but also for himself – to prove to this woman that he has value to her endeavours he relays information Flint easily could have managed himself. Charles knows the importance of establishing he means to be of use to her endeavours because he himself seeks the same in other people. Their objectives are aligned, and he wants – nay, needs her to see that.

This is a connection I feel could have been expanded on if the story were not so sadly focused on destroying everything good about itself in the most long winded deevolutions possible, and one I know Charles deeply values.

  • While he does not indulge around his friends, when it is just himself and Georgianna, it is not uncommon to find Fitzwilliam nursing a hot chocolate in the winter months as he reads quietly to his sister, or silently to himself.

  • At one point, Georgianna got it into her mind that she would very much like to learn how to bake a pie herself. After some cajoling on her part, Fitzwilliam consented to speak to the head cook, who agreed under the term that the young master keep an eye on the girl.

It was thus due to this particular adventure that an eighteen year old Fitzwilliam and his then six year old sister somehow managed to cause the single most disastrous flour explosion ever known to the Pemberley kitchens, and amid stifled giggles of the staff, he gathered up his dignity and declared he would never set foot there again, so help him all merciful saints.

( It should be noted, for further visual, that he also picked up his little sister like one might a cat, leaving her arms and legs to dangle toward the floor as he held her about her quavering middle thanks to the sheer fits of laughter she was in. He then marched his flour coated self and sibling to their personal servants to be cleaned off, and had to do his very best not to laugh himself upon the looks he received from his father and the steward Wickham! Not to mention the shrill horror of his sister’s nurse at the sight of her lovely dress ruined, and the woman’s attempts to scold him for carrying Georgianna so indignantly! )

  • It was not just the hunting hounds of Pemberley who enjoyed the patronage of the young master Darcy. He was also known to the horses to always have an apple or a sugar cube for them, and it was not uncommon ( to Georgianna’s extreme pleasure, thus his continued encouragement of it ) to find him trailed by a small flock of ducks seeking peas from his pockets.

🛏What is their favorite bedroom activity to do with their partner?

Whatever happens to make them the most endearingly breathless. Thomas is playful and experimental in the bedroom ( indeed to even make it into his bedroom one must endure rigorous testing and inexplicable examinations understood only to Thomas – and at times Miranda ) and dedicates himself to mastering a lover’s body with the sort of focus one expects from an individual who has spent years studying an instrument and must now learn to play one of the hardest pieces designed for it in an accelerated time frame no mortal could hope to accomplish – and he is determined to reach divinity.

💚Are they prone to jealousy?

Thomas has a polyamorous heart – in truth he is never wholly comfortable in a monogamous relationship. He feels – to the depths of his being – that two people are inherently imbalanced and the only means of complimenting both while also mitigating both is the advent of an ideal third party with mutual attractions.

For this reason he is generally quite open in many things – however, once he and his are settled into their routines with one another he is known to be somewhat possessive of both, and to not take particularly kindly to any who may attempt to entice either away from the trio.

💔Do they have a certain type of person they will not enter into a relationship with?

You mean aside from anyone female shaped whose name is not Miranda Hamilton? Hell yes.

Thomas is in fact an exceptionally discerning person and he spends a lot of time testing the fuck out of people with criteria known only unto himself to determine – and I kid you not – their worthiness as a partner to himself and Miranda both.

When Miranda is not involved – when it is just Thomas – he may be more prone to fucking without strings attached, but as soon as he decides he wants a more permanent arrangement he goes back to this manner of selection. For every James McGraw there are doubtless hundreds of Peter Ashe’s.

🏷️Do they give their partners cute nicknames? / 😘Does their demeanor change when in a relationship? / ♦️Are they concerned with the social status of their partner? [ for theodore! ]

🏷️ Do they give their partners cute nicknames?

Theodore is a very observant person – he will try, but if it is apparent to him that his partner is not fond of the custom he will ( for the most part ) abstain for their benefit. This won’t stop him from thinking of them in those terms, or addressing them as such when occasion calls for it and the name falls naturally from his lips. He is a man who lives his life without regrets – and if he might look back on a moment and wish he had called his lover darling in that moment, he will simply call them darling to avoid such a future from coming to pass.

😘Does their demeanor change when in a relationship?

Hmm. While I would say that he becomes an even bigger ball of sunshine than normal – it would also be remiss to ignore the fact that nothing clouds Theodore better than domestic dispute and neglect.

While like most things, it tends to roll off him and his endless optimism rather well, there can be times when he is vulnerable to misconduct, and will seek to appease his partner either by being sweeter on them, or simply escaping them until their mood is better.

While it is easy to think that he simply doesn’t learn, what with his lamentable habit of getting into bad relationship after horror show after terrible idea, the truth is he has so much hope and belief in people that he tries anyway despite how many times he has been burned – but he has not forgotten the pain, and he has developed means of mitigating it that reflect a history of being abused to anyone who knows the signs to look for.

It is in this, and this alone that he reveals there are in fact clouds that can cast over his shine, but more often than not he succeeds in his ability to make those overcast moments slip by without notice.

♦️ Are they concerned with the social status of their partner?

Theodore literally does not give the tiniest of fucks, frankly. Be they lord or pirate, if they earn his favor – nothing matters beyond that point.

🎶Do they have a type? / 👫Do they display affection in public? What about in private? / 📺 Do they share information about their relationships freely with friends and family? [ for silver! ]

{ Relationship Inquiries }

image

🎶Do they have a type?

Jandro: A pretty smile, a joyous laugh, or even just ‘hi’ was generally enough for him to fall madly in love. In his defense, he was a very passionate little boy who had very little reason not to love people.

Christopher: Whomever he was expected to show his affections to. He was no more than a clockwork doll in the Hope household and he knew it. He did not dare cast his eyes in any direction but the ones decided for him.

John: Survivors who have been through hell and still retained a true core of integrity attract him more than anything else, in truth because he hopes to learn from them how to reconcile what he has become amid the wreckage of all he used to be.

👫Do they display affection in public? What about in private?

As you will soon learn, as a young lad in Spain he was a very open young person who would make grand gestures and had little issues with public affections. As a forced Englishman, he was circumspect and suspicious enough not to dare. As John Silver, he has none whom he would offer such affections to and even if he did, he would not dare to risk revealing a potential vulnerability.

In private – again, Jandro was open, Christopher would not dare do anything outside the lines of propriety he had been so forcefully educated in, and Silver doesn’t trust enough to show vulnerability to anyone. ( Exception later to Madi, who proves it is possible to earn back the openness and adoration Jandro is truly capable of – but seeing as she is a singularly exceptional woman, it is doubtful anyone else will succeed in earning the same favor without considerable alterations to the canon in play. Such as literally anything where seasons 3-4 are nixed, lmao. )

📺 Do they share information about their relationships freely with friends and family?

Back before John Silver existed – before his father came and fashioned out of a Spanish child an English heir – Jandro was easily one of the most romantic idiots in his entire county area. When he was seven, he was positively besotted with a young lass of eight, and was absolutely convinced he would marry her.

He told his mother and his grandmother all about it, and even learned from his grandmother to make a flower crown so that he could bring his little beloved gifts that were thoughtful and appropriate for their age.

He was, therefore, absolutely devastated when she broke off with him because she found a ‘better boyfriend’ and spent the better part of two weeks with his grandmother lamenting the cruelties of women.

He bounced back quickly enough when another young lady set her sights on him, and so it went in merry and foolish fashion until his mother reigned him in and demanded he begin to comport himself appropriately. He had his longest relationship at the age of ten and it was mostly due to adult interferences with the intent of an arrangement.

Perhaps unfortunately, Jandro’s habit of sharing everything with his grandmother lead her to realize the young girl in question was part of a disreputable family, thus resulting in the two being separated – it is quite likely that had he kept his time with the young lady to himself, he would have been at her summer house with his grandmother when the attack came, and thus spared witness to such carnage and perhaps afforded the survival of a dear family member.

As Christopher Hope, he did not entertain any courtships until he was in his early twenties, both of which were designed to test him and his dedication and loyalty. He learned from the first not to trust even the one person he did in Hope house after that – and from the second, that any word is a weapon if utilized with the correct intentions. He reported in mechanically, but there was no interest and certainly, nothing worth listening to.

As John Silver, he has nobody whom he might share such things with, save whomever happens to be his partner. So ultimately, we can conclude that life turned him from someone who celebrated love in all its forms and shared it with those he adored because it made sense his happiness would bring them happiness, to a man who holds no faith that happiness can be real and has nobody to share it with even if it might be.
